The caves of Castellabate, inside the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano are one of the most important speleological sitesin Italy. There are different founds of fossil of the Paleolithic age. The caves are characterized by succession of galleries, salons and bottle necks, stalactites and stalagmites. The speleological route is accessable for everyone. One of the most characteristical places is ‘the big waterfall’ (grande cascata), a huge casting of calcium and for this its colour is white-yellow.
Other particular places are ‘pozzi della morte’ (well of the dead), Lago Sifone (lake Sifone), Terrazza degli Anelli (terraceof rings) and Lago Terminale (terminal lake), The caves developed due the unceasing work of water, which creates with passes of centuries the fantastic limestone structures, giving birth to beautiful underground landscapes.
